Guess what we did on Friday?

We wanted to learn about the function of the stem of a flower... So what better way to see how the stem sucks up water than to put a Carnation stem into coloured water.

We came up with predictions as to what we thought might happen. Turns out our predictions were correct.

You should try this at home!

Planting Day!

Place Value

Here is a video of one of our maths groups in Room 10. They are learning about 3 digit numbers.

We rolled three dice, each number representing the ones, tens and hundreds in a 3 digit number. We then created this number on our paper cups.

This is a fun and easy way to learn about the value of numbers.

Have a go at home!

Please leave a comment - I would love the feedback :)

We had some very special visitors in Room 10 today

Today Jade brought in her 5 Budgies to share with Room 10.

We had them in our class for the whole day! We learnt about what types of food they like to eat and that they need lots of fun toys in their cage to keep them entertained.

We also read "Pete Little" as it is about a Budgie named Pete who flies out of his cage.

We did some awesome writing, here is Jay-Jay's work:

Check out these superstar writers! Good on all of you :)

Maths Week

Number Bonds to Ten
This week was maths week... we had fun doing some different things in class. We made paper chains using different colours to show number bonds to ten. Test your child at home... can they remember all the number bonds to ten?
I'll start you off... 1 + 9 = 10

Great photo Zoe!

Zoe planting her sunflower seeds

This looks like a nice and sunny place to plant your sunflower seeds. Good thinking putting it close to the fence as it will have something to lean against!

Puppets!

We made puppets today!

We love our very own classroom puppet Rocco and his mates, so we decided to make our own puppets for reading.

We are going to use our puppets to help us read with fluency and expression. When we read aloud, we are able to hear any mistakes and we learn to use punctuation when we read.

Some of us forgot our socks - but not to worry, if you bring them on Monday we will make the rest.

Check them out...

Reading!

This term we have had a big change to our reading programme and it is awesome!

In Miss Glen's class, we now have a combination of Room 9 & 10 students working together for Reading. The children are loving having the opportunity to work with other students and be in a new environment!

We have some really cool new activities that are now part of our tumble.

One of our favourites is "Magic Spoons".
We use the spoons with alphabet letters to create new words using the word endings on the list. It's quite fun making 'real' words and 'nonsense' words.

Just a reminder about speeches :)

Year 2 Students only
You have Four Weeks to write, plan and learn your speech off by heart!!

Task

Your task is to prepare a one minute speech on one of the following topics :
Ø  My favourite toy
Ø  I wish…
Ø  One day…
Ø  My best friend
Ø  Did you know?

Someone at home can help you to plan and organise your speech.

To help with your planning, you will be assessed on the following points:
Content:
The message that I gave was clear and meaningful/In general my speech was interesting

Structure:
I have organised my speech well into an introduction, middle and conclusion

Delivery:
I have created cue cards and I can look up from my cue cards to talk to the audience
I can say my speech at a steady pace
I can say my speech clearly
I have used a good level of volume so people sitting at the back can hear me
I am relaxed and confident
I can use my voice/body language to make my speech more powerful
I can stand up straight and tall when I am talking
I can stand without fidgeting while I am talking
My Audience was interested and engaged

Please note:
The speech can be persuasive or informative.

Making a speech is nothing to fear.  With preparation and practise you can improve your skills and increase your confidence. Please start early and don’t leave it for the week before the speech finals.

  • Write a strong introduction and a powerful conclusion
  • Develop some main ideas
  • Keep it simple

4. Put your speech on cue cards –Week 3
  • Cut cards to fit comfortably in your hand
  • Number the cards

5. Work on your presentation skills- Week 3 and 4
  • Learn your speech
  • You may use cue cards.
  • Practise in front of the mirror
  • Practise in front of an audience
  • Time yourself to make sure that your speech is as close to 1 minute as possible
Cross off each of these steps as you complete them.
